Yup. There's an actual "Sandy Spring" located behind the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum. Not only has it endured through the centuries, but it still produces 10 gallons of water per day.
The Vampire Diaries filmed scenes at Glenridge Hall, which was portrayed as the main characters' home. The house, a historic property in Sandy Springs, was built in 1929 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places until 2015 when it was demolished and delisted.

Sandy Springs residents, led by Eva Galambos, fought for 40 years to obtain their own government and become a city. In June 2005, an overwhelming 94 percent of residents voted for incorporation. Voters then returned to the polls and elected Galambos as the city's first mayor.

On January 16, 1997, Eric Rudolph, also known as the Olympic Park Bomber, set two bombs to explode at a Sandy Springs abortion clinic. No one was hurt in the first explosion, but an hour later, as firefighters and investigators combed the scene, a second bomb exploded, injuring six people.
The boundaries of Sandy Springs are Atlanta to the south, Cobb County (at the Chattahoochee River) to the west and north, Roswell (also at the river) to the north, and Dunwoody and Brookhaven, at the DeKalb County line, to the east.
