Mississippi has more churches per capita than any other state in the country, and they're not just buildings taking up space. A recent Gallup poll found that people in the state actually go to church more frequently than residents of any other state.

Calamari is a Mediterranean dish, consisting of batter-coated squid, sliced into rings and deep-fried, often with marinara sauce on the side. It was adopted as the official state appetizer on June 27, 2014.

The Delaware quarter shows Caesar Rodney on his historic ride to Philadelphia. Rodney made the 80-mile ride on July 1, 1776 through terrible heat and thunderstorms to cast his vote in favor of Delaware signing the Declaration of Independence. Rodney's vote turned out to be the tie-breaker.

According to Guinness World Records, North Dakota holds the world record for the most snow angels made simultaneously in one place. The event occurred on February 17, 2007, when 8,962 snow angels were created by people on the state capitol grounds in Bismarck.

Vermont was one of the first states to ban billboards, passing the statute in 1968, according to the Vermont Natural Resources Council. Other states with billboard bans include Maine, Hawaii and Alaska.

Wyoming's western half is mostly covered by the ranges and rangelands of the Rocky Mountains, while the eastern half of the state is high-elevation prairie called the High Plains.
