Mount Mansfield is the highest mountain in Vermont with a summit that peaks at 4,395 feet (1,340 m) above sea level. When viewed from the east or west, this mountain has the appearance of a (quite elongated) human profile, with distinct forehead, nose, lips, chin, and Adam's apple.

The sugar maple (Acer saccharum) is the source of maple syrup, Vermont's most famous export.

Lake Champlain is the Adirondacks' largest lake, providing the perfect playground for boating, fishing, water sports and lake monsters. Based upon descriptions and mysterious alligator-like tracks found near Lake Champlain, cryptozoologists have suggested that the monster, known to locals as Champ, could be a member of the family Crocodylidae (crocodiles).

The longest Cadillac parade consisted of 298 Cadillac cars at the Orleans County Fair in Barton, Vermont on August 17, 2011. This parade was held in honor of Barton, VT native, Henry M. Leland, inventor of the Cadillac.

The hermit thrush (Catharus guttatus) was only designated as the state bird after a heated debate in the legislature. Although the hermit thrush is found in all of Vermont's 14 counties and has a distinctive sweet call, it leaves the state during the winter for its yearly southward migration. Many legislators favored the blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata).

It borders three states: Massachusetts to the south, New Hampshire to the east, and New York to the west. To the north, it is bordered by the Canadian province of Quebec.

The state of Vermont has 255 municipalities. This includes 237 towns, nine cities, five unincorporated towns, and four gores. Although many Vermont towns are large enough to be considered cities, they are not incorporated as such.

The lowest temperature on record in the state was minus fifty degrees Fahrenheit on December 30, 1933, at Bloomfield, Vermont.
