Junior M.A.F.I.A. consisted of Biggie's friends from childhood and included rappers such as Lil' Kim and Lil' Cease who went on to have solo careers.

In her book Keeping the Faith, Evans reveals the time she caught Biggie in bed with another woman: "I flew into a rage, ran over to the side of the bed, and pulled back the covers. I grabbed some chick out of the bed and started beating her a**. At some point, the chick's wig came off in my hand; it was a short, cropped wig. I stopped throwing punches for a minute to get a good look at the chick I was beating up. It was Lil Kim."

"Hypnotize" features many pop culture references to television and film including Star Wars, Roots, Starsky & Hutch, King of New York, comics and cartoon character Richie Rich, children's clothing Underoos, and the '60s pop hit "Da Doo Ron Ron" by The Crystals.

"Mo Money Mo Problems" topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in 1997, replacing "I'll Be Missing You" from the chart, Puff Daddy's own tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. The song was Biggie's second posthumous number one single, following "Hypnotize", making him the only artist in Hot 100 history to have two number one singles posthumously.

He released only one album, Ready to Die (1994), before he was himself murdered in a drive-by shooting just six months after 2Pac's death. Sixteen days later, Biggie's double-disc second album was released as planned with the shortened title of Life After Death.

The Commission was mentioned by Wallace in the lyrics of "What's Beef" on Life After Death and "Victory" from No Way Out, but a Commission album was never completed. The group would have included Biggie, Jay-Z, Lil' Cease, Sean "Puffy" Combs, and Charli Baltimore.
